Still Missing Bernese Mountain Dog - Chelsea

40 comments:

  1. While looking for Chelsea, the Chelsea Team has rescued and reunited other Bernese Mountain Dogs with their owners. In April, there have been numerous sightings of a scruffy, loose Bernese Mountain Dog in the Pringle Creek area of Whitby. This may be our Chelsea - and if it isn't, it is still a Berner that needs help. If you are in the Manning, Ribblesdale, Pilkington and Bradley area please keep a look out - I would look out Brock St to Anderson and Rossland to Dundas - if you see anything call 905-706-2635 Heather Milburn's cell. If you are going for a walk and can go there with a leash and treats to look while you exercise that would be great.

  2. If you could stop posting the signs all over the place THAT would be great. We live in this area, and we were understanding of the first million signs you posted, but now that you're on to the second million, we find it excessive. You may wish to consider either a mailing, or going door- to-door with a flyer containing similar information. With you excessive sign campaign, you are now alienating people--including dog lovers. For 56 years (as a child and now as an adult) my family and I have had dogs (purebreds and 'mixtures') and never once have we been so careless as to LOSE one, let alone expect the community to look after it. Being a dog owner is a responsibility that should be taken seriously--or not at all. It may take a village to raise a child, but a dog is an individual's or a family's "job". Stop with the signs. With the preponderance of coyotes we had in the area this past spring, and with Chelsea being "scruffy, loose" and likely weakened, I'm thinking Chelsea's femur is likely being used as a toothpick by some cocky coyote!

  3. Wow, are you a piece of shit! Maybe while they are out searching for Chelsea they will find your your heart. What an awful disgusting thing to write. If you knew anything about dogs, being so all knowing in your 56 years, you would know that when dogs are lost in survival mode, they can go in to state of shock and fear and they won't even come to the most loving owner. So take your bitterness, ignorance and your hatred and peddle it elsewhere because you stand alone in it. I speak for countless people, when I say that we are behind you, Team Chelsea and praying she is found and reunited with her family safe and sound!

Listen lady, This girl lost her dog and you could, I dunno, BE SUPPORTIVE! How insensitive must you be?? Maybe instead of complaining about the signs and being a complete jerk go and help or troll someone else. Maybe YOU shouldn't put negative thoughts in her head. WOW. You are really pushing it.

  5. Ha ha ha to Anonymous above. We too live in the area of all these damn posters and are equally tired of it. If the dog survived a few days ok but months on the lose with the coyotes and wolves NO WAY! My husband says she is a Chelsea Chop for the wolves long ago. I get a few posters but these people seem to think they own the area. I'm sorry your dog is gone but it's a DOG. My other neighbour wonders how much Kool Aid all the search volunteers are drinking. And when they were told that one of their posters which was illegally posted at an intersection involved an accident that involved children they didn't seem to even care. Man the dog is gone. Get over it. The poor old owner is the one I feel for now. My neighbours and I have now emailed the mayor Pat Perkins asking her to follow up with Bylaw enforcement and ENFORCE THE BYLAW to remove the signs. mayor@whitby.ca is the mayor's address if you'd like to email her too!

  6. I think it is extraordinary how selfish the daughter of the dog's owner has been to put her 80 year old mother through this ordeal for eight months now. What kind of a daughter does that to her mother?? As much as we love our family pets, if they are not trained obedience and get lost, it might be a suggestion to allow yourself a couple of weeks of grieving, and move on. Apparently from all the articles and posts everywhere, it seems that the loss of the dog hit the owner harder than the loss of the husband of 54 or so years. Huh?? Something is seriously wrong here. It might be time to call it a day, take those damn posters down, and surprise the owner with a new dog. Preferably an adult dog who's been through obedience training already and listens when called. That dog is long dead, stringing all those volunteers along for months: Don't people have anything more useful to do with their time? I like the thought of these people having too much Cool Aid though. Funny, can I get some too please?

  7. Thanks so much for the idea to email the mayor and by-law enforcement to have those posters removed. I live in Ajax and they are littering my neighborhood as well. I will email the Town of Ajax right away. It must be hard, especially for realtors these days, to show houses in subdivisions littered with those posters. It probably affects the sale of properties. We would move to downtown Toronto if we wanted to live on streets plastered with posters.

  8. Wow, people who care more about a possible minor downtick in the value of a capital investments than the life of an animal that was part of someone's family. Just shameful. Hope you never lose a pet or a child, and need to reach out to your community!

  9. I think its awful how people are behaving. They are posters. They're not hurting anyone and perhaps they will help. What's wrong with people calling her wolf food. She's someones pet and family member. And the dog ran away from a daycare not from her mom in a park. Have a heart and help out.

  10. Did anyone think the dog has been picked up long ago by someone from another area? After 9 months ,if the animal is alive , it would have changed mentally and should not be left with a 80 year old person. Take your $1000 and buy her a new one.

  11. The team looking for Chelsea has caught and reunited almost 60 other loose dogs with their owners, while they're searching. This shows GREAT community spirit. Her facebook page alone (Missing Bernese Mountain Dog Named Chelsea) has 947 people following her story as well. There are still sightings that are being followed, so she's still out there, running scared and SHE WILL GET RESCUED - in spite of the criticism of a few.

    1. well actually Olivia, I was rear ended a few months ago with my children in the car. The lady behind me was trying to read one of the Chelsea posters posted unsafely at the intersection. Posters are actually not allowed posted here. When the Chelsea people were told that their posters helped cause an accident they basically told me they didn't care and refused to remove them. I agree the lady should have been watching me more closely, but if the poster hadn't been put in a dangerous place I would not have been hit and my CHILDREN, as in small human beings, wouldn't have been hurt. So please take your opinions and horribly foul language and feel free to pay for my damage and the suffering of my children. I don't care about a dog - I care about my children. SHAME ON YOU

    3. Oh my Olivia. Are you really saying that a dog that is lost is more important than human children? And to suggest it's the drivers' fault that shot got hit from behind. I'm guessing you don't drive? It is ALWAYS the fault of the person behind. The person if front cannot make you stop. And your language is deplorable. I am guessing this page is not moderated. And to say shame on you to a mother whose children were in a car accident caused by an illegally posted bulletin over a dog? Really? How horrible a person are you? Your attitude draws away any empathy whatsoever for that dog. Who is likely and sadly long gone by now.

  15. Perhaps it's time to let Chelese's family move on or if they choose to continue their quest. The hate messages above are disgraceful (on both sides) and Toronto Lost and Founnd Pets could do well to remove all of these messages. My heart goes out to the family and I wish them well.

  17. TO THIS ASSHOLE, firstly this woman did not lose her dog a paid facility did while she was away, the posters hurt no one, and clearly you are a heartless bastard what a frigging complainer you are if posters are the only thing you have to complain about. what a sad world we live in with horrible people like this person!

  18. This dog has been sighted recently in the Pringle Creek, Micheal Blv area. We should not give up on this poor dog. I for one go for walks all the time, and have my eye out for Chelsea. We are a community just trying to help. Do these signs really affect your lives that much. If they do, then those of you, who are complaining, really need a life. This poor women entrusted her dog, to a paid facility. How would you feel if this happened to you.

    Get a life!!!

  19. These people are a God sent!!!
I was walking my dogs through the old Cullen Gardens in Whitby when two Huskies came barreling through and chased one of my dogs through the field and through the parking lot… I lost sight of her… She was lost for over 2 hours. It was snowing and getting dark. This group found my dog; she was completely soaked and wet, cold and shivering. She must have gone through the creek, up the hill and crossed Taunton Road; I would have never found her, she would not have made it through the night with the Coyotes and the sub degrees temps. These people found her, took the time to gain her trust, wrapped her in a big towel and brought her back to me. If you are not an “animal person” you will never know what it’s like to lose a pet. The feeling of panic combined with a broken heart is what I felt. Words could never justify the gratitude I feel for these people. I hope they read this… because I am so very, very grateful. They told me my dog was #87 successful “found and reunited”!!!

  20. Just want to let you all know, "Chelsea" is safe. I picked her up in the area of Victoria St. and Brock in Whitby one year ago today, and took her home with me to Burlington. Her name is now Victoria. All the sightings of the dog are not the dog. I tried calling the number on one of the posters to report that I found the dog, and the person got back to me and said that this dog that I picked up was ruled out. So, I felt that they didn't want the dog back bad enough, so I kept her. So the search for "Chelsea" is over. I found her, they didn't want her back, so she's mine now. Take care.

    1. i am sure you have been asked to show a pic .I am sure you love her but it would be nice if you could find it in your heart to let a pic out of her this it could end. There would be comfort in knowing she is well. The team will move on. Mabe there is something to finding pets that are lost for people .As the world is large and in time of need one wishes that they could get help ,when there pet is lost.so pleases if you could find it i your heart to just give peace of mind that would be great. Then these people can work on helpping to fix a bronken system .Also if you do have her gie her a huge and a kiss and for she has saved many of pets for others and for that she is a hero . michelle

  21. anonymous above. i truely hope you did find her and she is with a great family. however, if you are being truthful, please dont tell anyone how you came to get her I would hate to see her removed from you.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous if you really are being truthful and DO have Chelsea, one would think you would do the honest thing and return her to her rightful owner, which is NOT you. Don't really know how you can sleep well at night knowing you may have acquired this dog dishonestly, it's theft in every way, Do the right thing and return the dog to her family where she belongs. if you really do have her of course !

    ReplyDelete
  23. This is not theft, this person contacted the owners and apparently didn't believe this dog was Chelsea. It's obvious that the search for Chelsea is more about attention grabbing than actually a search for a lost pet. This is not theft, sorry.... and no, I'm not the one who has Chelsea, just someone who is sick of this overblown fiasco.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hope that this person truly does Chelsea. If he/she called the owners and told them and they didn't want to hear it or do their due diligence by going out to check, then really it's their own problem. If you find something (dog included) and call the owner and owner doesn't want to believe you have it and does nothing, then I guess it's a case of finder's keeper's and I hope you sleep very well at night with your new dog. And I agree, I don't think owner's daughter cares about finding the dog just about being the centre of attention and I too am tired of this overblown fiasco too. Hope Chelsea (Victoria) has a happy long life with her new owners who will likely take better care of her anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If this person truly does have Chelsea.. Prove it.. Post a picture as proof.. many people may think your just a sad soul desperate for attention! If you really did call and speak to somebody at a contact number from a poster, somebody would have come to see the dog you claimed to have to confirm it to be or not to be Chelsea! So prove there is some truth to your claims and post a front profile picture of the dog you claim to have instead of being a coward and hiding behind a blind post on the Internet!

    ReplyDelete
  26. To the person who posted Mar 16 - lmao I called the Chelsea group of people regarding a dog and they completely dismissed me on the phone too and didn't want to see a picture or the dog. So if the poor girl above who says she called them, she most likely did. And if they dismissed her the way they did me, then it is now her dog and no point posting a picture because the dog is now hers. And let's assume for one second the dog she found may not be Chelsea because who knows - then Chelsea is long gone, dead or otherwise. There have been zero confirmed sightings of her since the day she took off. So I would rather think Chelsea found comfort in a nice family rather than being eaten by coyotes. Because either way, Chelsea is long long long long gone.

    ReplyDelete
  27. If the person above has Chelsea, why not post a pic of the Chelsea or (Victoria) on their Facebook page to prove to them and all searchers you really do have her. If they did blow you off and it is her, keep her. But what is the harm in posting a pic. We don't need to know who you are!

    1. we all hope that this person who claims to have rehomed "Chelsea" come forward and if what they posted is untrue, then this is really sad how anyone would fabricate such a story just to get a rise out of people.

  28. This person who claims to have Chelsea, is probably a member of "stop the madness" group. I wouldn't put it past them to call in pranks, just so they have somthing to talk about. For a group that dosen't want nothing to do with helping Chelsea's family, they sure get off on looking at their facebook page and commenting on everything they do. If you don't like what team Chelsea is doing stop visiting their site. It's the same bullying. Chelsea's FB page dosen't talk about what your group is doing or saying. As for the person who says they have Chelsea, grow some balls coward, post a pic.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Just went to both of these Facebook pages, the Missing BMD Chelsea and the one you mention above about Stop the Maddness I think it is called. I'd say the Madness people have enough to chuckle about without having to call in false sightings. As an outsider I would have to say that this BMD is dead or already rehomed as someone claims above. My goodness, they give up on human searches within so much time. I would hope that if someone has found her, did try to call, got blown off, just don't bother responding anymore, don't post a picture, and enjoy their dog. Sounds like the owners of this dog need to get over it and go get a Shi-pooh or something that is easier to control. The madness people seem to have been peed on by the other page. This is better than a Jerry Springer episode. The dog's gone people, get over it.

  30. Dear Anonymous.. Do you have any idea or even care for that matter.. The amount of people that still continue to search for Chelsea 24/7 ? Good hearted people bust there butts round the clock looking and hoping to locate Chelsea! Why wouldn't you post a picture of the face of the dog you claim to have as Chelsea? Then maybe it can be confirmed you have her or you don't.. For real. You saw fit to shoot your mouth off saying you had Chelsea from behind the safety of a computer screen? Wow that's very adult and mature of you. Most would assume on your lack of proof you made up this story to be mean and hurtful! .. Be a big person and step up and prove your claims so the numerous people that continue daily searches can put it to rest to..Chance are good you monitor the Facebook page and are very aware of the search efforts.. You clearly have some clue the amount of people involved in this that you are also hurting aside from the owners of Chelsea.. Take notice of the nearly 100 other animals these great people have rescued and returned to there owners? What if 1of those animals was your lost pet? I guess you may see things differently then huh.. Grow some and step up.. Post a picture or remain a coward? There has to be some good in your heart! If not.. Karma has it's ways!

  31. .. My wishes go out to Chelsea..
To think that some people have the heart (or lack of in better words) to think that it's the owner's fault. It's not.
Sure, there are quite a few posters, but not nearly enough to decrease house value.
If you want the posters down then take it down on your own. I'm not saying it's o.k. to remove these posters but if it stops you from whining here, then so be it.
Again, wishes go to Chelsea and her family.

    1. The original posters were bad enough. But if you're going to basically plaster a neighbourhood with them, then be kind enough to remove them when they're decrepid looking as a courtesy to the people in the neighbourhoods who have to live with the worn and torn and half hanging things. And if the posters were gonna work, the dog would be home by now. And as for blaming the owner. I just think if the owner had trained the dog to come when called to begin with, she wouldn't still be missing or taken off in the first place. Myself, I have removed them from all the posts since it's clear the Chelsea searchers have no respect for my neighbourhood. Face it, the dog is long gone, and hopefully rehomed as Victoria as someone claimed
